Appinions Inc. is a Manhattan-based startup that provides a SaaS influence marketing platform and services that let people see the web through the lens of peoples’ opinions. Behind the services is a natural language understanding platform, based on over a decade of research at Cornell University by Dr. Claire Cardie, Computer Science, and her students.
Cardie’s research group had been developing statistical machine learning methods to identify opinions and other subjective language in online text, such as news and magazine articles and radio and television broadcasts. Their techniques were designed not only to identify where opinions were mentioned, but also to characterize the opinions according to topic, opinion holder, and sentiment of the opinion (positive, negative, or neutral).

Larry Levy, Co-Founder & CEO
As a serial entrepreneur, Larry brings a wealth of hands-on experience. Prior to Appinions, Larry served as co-founder and CEO of Semagix Group, which was sold to Warburg Pincus in 2006. Larry was also the founder and CEO of Protégé Holdings, recognized as an “Upside 100” company, as well as the founder of Citria and Delrina Europe. He holds a BCom and BAcc from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and is a chartered accountant CA(SA).
Dr. Claire Cardie, Co-Founder & Chief Scientist
Claire is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Charles and Barbara Weiss Director of the Information Science program at Cornell University. She holds an MS and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a BS in Computer Science from Yale University.
Craig Danuloff, EVP

Craig is an experienced entrepreneur who founded companies and delivered innovative software products in the desktop publishing (Publishing Resources), electronic commerce (iCat Corp), online marketing (ClickEquations), and personal data (Rewind.Me) markets. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado College of Business & Administration.

David Pierce, CTO
Before Appinions, Dr. David Pierce was the Principal Research Scientist at General Dynamics. He also served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Buffalo. He holds an MS and a PhD in Computer Science from Cornell University and a BS in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.


Jon Phillips, VP Engineering
Jon is an engineer and developer who has worked at a number of startups and technology companies building and evaluating natural processing systems in areas such as social network analysis, machine translation, handwriting recognition, entity-extraction, and temporal reasoning.  He has a BS in Computer Science From North Carolina State University and an MS in Linguistics from Georgetown.
Perry Ziff, EVP Strategic Accounts
As an entrepreneurial executive, Perry brings more than twenty years experience as a successful executive leader in both established and emerging companies and as a consultant. Prior to joining Appinions, Perry served in senior executive roles in Business Development, Product Management, and Operations for NEP Broadcasting, Perceptive Pixel (acquired by Microsoft in 2012), and Dun & Bradstreet. Earlier in his career, Perry enjoyed a 10-year consulting career at McKinsey & Company. Perry holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT..
